Virgin Active launch new classes with yoga star Patrick Beach

If getting your health and wellbeing on track was one of your New Year’s resolutions, Virgin Active has just made it that bit easier for you with their new global yoga ambassador, Patrick Beach...

They’ve teamed up with the international yoga star to create a new yoga timetable that will focus on the core yoga principles - calm, strength and align. The classes will include a brand-new four-week beginner’s course and a new-to-timetables yoga class - Calm by Candlelight.

“The work I’ve been doing with Virgin Active as their global yoga ambassador will help to demystify yoga and to encourage members to embrace yoga practices as a powerful and effective form of mindful exercise,” says Beach. “Through my workshops and the practices that I have helped shape with the experts at Virgin Active, I want to show people that yoga doesn’t just have functional fitness benefits to improve performance, but can have real mental benefits too.”

And whilst there are classes to suit everyone’s needs, the combination of the three pillars ensures that the sessions will really get your muscles working and your stamina building. We went along to try out Calm by Candlelight and, after a mix of postures and relaxation, left feeling extremely revitalised. Patrick's encouragement and clear explanations make it easy for new-comers to follow and his calm voice left us fighting sleep as we ended with relaxation. There was also a satisfying ache in our legs and shoulders the next day to prove that we had worked out.

“There can be a lot of misconceptions and confusion with the different branches of yoga, that’s why we’ve taken the decision to streamline our timetable with three clear pillars to simplify the process and enable more people to choose the right class for them. Classes in each pillar will utilise different styles of yoga to help members meet different goals including relaxation (Calm), improved flexibility (Align) or increased core strength (Strength),” says Gillian Reeves, Virgin Active’s National Group Exercise Manager.

Classes will be available from select Virgin Active clubs in the UK from February 2017.
